    Overcomplicated Luck

The story behind the shot... while looking for Pygmy Owls I kept hearing a Flycatcher, no Pygmies around so I started bushwhacking to locate the Flycatcher which I did up in a small group of deciduous trees, I managed to get a few record shots but nothing Flickr worthy :) I'm stuck in a blackberry bush which I thought was navigable, off-balance fighting the thorns what turned out to be a Hammond's flies down to feed about 15ft in front of me... what? So I managed to get the camera in front of me, it won't focus...what? I could see this little fuzzy blob front and centre but could not get the lens to focus knowing full well this is a one-off opportunity. I swung the lens away focused, back to the Flycatcher and managed to get a few shots off, this being the best of the three, in a second it was gone. No time to choose a background that is a big old white stump back there, green would have been so much nicer but better this than missing the opportunity.

    Hutton's Vireo

I had Hutton's, a PacificSlope Flycatcher and a Cassin's Vireo all within a few hours, tough job keeping up with ID's as they all look very similar.
