I have heard them hoot from a very tall cedar in our front yard but never low to the ground in the backyard maple trees. I was not prepared to run out of the house, I had my husbands crocks on sliding down the bank falling at this guys feet, such a graceful entrance, saved the camera once again lol. ISO 2000 1/6 sec hand held not supper sharp but not bad... cudoos to Nikon's VR!
