American Beaver
I was back to the Beaver pond and found a second-year kit by itself. I hear it varies often no Beavers show and other times 3 or 4 will be at this spot. Something I recently learned from watching the Beavers they sit or lay on their tails I'm guessing it keeps the tail warm and offers a softer surface to lay on. The tail is used as a rudder, a prop when standing or sitting up and it also holds fat reserves. If you are wondering about the red-orange teeth it is from iron-rich enamel resistant to acidic tree bark. An interesting read at www.animalfactsencyclopedia.com/Beaver-facts.html
