Bald Eagle
We came upon a large eagle perch on a bush which is a bit usual, it stayed put for our photo op, again unusual, plus it had its wings in an awkward position. To our amazement, it flew without too much difficulty.
Shawnigan Creek
The creek is too full to get a better angle. I will return when the water level recedes.
Lots of water moving since the heavy rains in the past few days.
Unusual Behavior
We have been watching this Eagle for two afternoons. Its behaviour seems a little off; it doesn't fly straight and has difficulty with its left wing. I reported it to the Avian Rescue centre they asked if I could continue to watch it. Unfortunately, it could be suffering from lead poisoning, which seems disturbingly common on Vancouver Island.
Cooper's Hawk, juvenile
I'm naming this youngster Houdini, after we saw him on a nesting platform he kept disappearing on us.
Top down over the tree tops on Cobble Hill
Out with friends for a hike up the hill today. It was our fourth hike up in the past week, getting a little easier.
Dunlin
Instead of giving up on a cold and windy day I waited till sunset. The water flattened out, birds flew in... very peaceful.
Dunlin at sunset.
Black Oystercatcher
Taking advantge of the mussels exposed during low tide.
A Black Oystercatcher at sunset.
Anna's Hummingbird, male
We saw so many Anna's today I lost count. This feisty little guy put on a nice show for us, head scratches, yoga stretches, take off and landings, what a great photo opportunity.

Bill cleaning. First time I have been able to capture a clear image of that tiny foot.
A wing stretch. These little hummers fascinate me.
Pileated Woodpecker, male
We found this friendly Pileated on a well-used path. It had found a dead tree full of bugs and worms, a very happy woodpecker.
Barred Owl, male
Chill hunting which is napping, then have a glance around, then back to napping.
Preening those beautiful thick feathers.
Doing some serious work on this dead tree.
