  • Flying Humpback

    Flying Humpback

It tooks weeks on the water to get a photo of Humpback Whale breaching like this, we saw it happen but couldn't catch it till this day.

  • Curly

    Curly

He is a monster of a bear weighing in at over 500lbs that's a guesstimate we didn't actually put him on the scales. He appeared from behind some bush came up to the vehicle, you should have seen us scramble to find the keys to get the windows up, then he licked the front bumper. What? Checking to see if it was edible? We got to know him over the summer he really is a loveable bear.

    Doing that stare thing again.

    Just having a good time.

A coastal Brown Bear from 2014 I found it in my files tonight.

  • Juvenile Eagle

    Juvenile Eagle

Fresh out of the nest watching her new surroundings from a snag above the river. The parents are perched tree top near by watching us.

  • A quick spin dry.

    A quick spin dry.

A soggy wet bear to almost dry in a second or two, Longlegs has a quick shake to freshen up.

  • Riverside R&R

    Riverside R&R

Sometimes chilling on a warm rock and watching the day with half open eyes it just what a bear needs.

  • Fox Kit

    Fox Kit

The kits often stay close to Mom during her visits, she is away a good part of the day hunting.

  • Fall is in the air.

    Fall is in the air.

The salmon run was coming to an end the bears know they only have a couple more months to get as many pounds on as they can. Vancouver Island Bears don't really hibernate over the winter, they do however sleep more in the winter months.

  • Giddy up

    Giddy up

The Eagle has both talons dug in, balancing with its wings and hanging on. They do not pick the largest fish in the river as that could cause harm or be life threatening.

  • Roosevelt Elk

    Roosevelt Elk

If we were lucky we could find this bull and his harem, not very often though.

  • On the run.

    On the run.

But running right to us, why I have no idea, the bear paused looked in our direction as if to say "hey it's you" and ran up to us. I had to convince it to go away as I have said in the past I hate to hurt their feelings however habituating them is a very bad idea.

  • Getting Down

    Getting Down

Sounds like I'm going to break into a 70's song, lol.

  • Vancouver Island Pygmy Owl

    Vancouver Island Pygmy Owl

This past fall friend and I were on a Sunday morning mission to find Pygmy Owls. We were driving down the road during the first 10 minutes or less of our search and the sun shone on this gorgeous little Owl by the side of the road. Your kidding us really ? No bush whacking, no searching for hours just drive down the road pull over and start shooting. So now what? We thought let's go find more Owls ... nope not a one. We could have turned around and driven home but it was more fun to stay out search I do believe we found a few good birding spots for future outings.
