The ducks would all take off at the same time, which of course, means they are feeling threatened. It wasn't me, as I didn't move locations for over 3 hours. Finally, I discovered what was triggering the mass exodus, a sea lion. It makes sense; I recall sea lions are known to grab the odd duck.
She floated by without freaking out when she saw me. That doesn't happen very often.
I first heard this interesting call which became progressively louder as it approached. I began to wonder if it was coming in for an attack. It kept going, only to turn around and return a few minutes later, making the same call. I moved back away from the water's edge, which calmed it.
