  • Queen of the rock.

    Queen of the rock.

She does look a bit regal here towering above us from her favourite rock. If you zoom in it takes a good 20 sec to focus, large file.

  • Scruffy's Cub

    Scruffy's Cub

She had one cub this spring and what a joy it was to watch this little gal. She is l so well behaved meaning when Mom tells her to stay hidden in the woods she does and when given the alarm ( repeated grunting) the cub bolts up the nearest tree. The fact she listens to her Mom means she has a much better chance of survival. We just name her tonight, Angel, I know kind of corny but appropriate.

She is the poster bear, the relaxed positions had us laughing, a real ham for the cameras.

This is Scruffy's cub, you can see the top of her head and ears below, something spooked them up a tree.

  • The Catch.

    The Catch.

Some days it took hours just to see a bear then it was additional hours waiting for some sort of activity. This was 7pm we had been there all day about ready to pack it in, Longlegs saved the day! It may seem like I have a lot of bear photos they were taken over the course of 8 weeks, 90% of the time we were there waiting.

A fight between Georgina on the right and Romeo over a rock which was the prefered fishing spot. Thank you so much for your comment, favs and view always appreciated. My new website www.melanieleesonphotography.com/ under construction, I hope to have it up-to-date by the end of October.

  • Shaking it up.

    Shaking it up.

Hi! I'm back with some bear photos from this summer. We didn't see bear activity like previous years however we did find a few familiar faces. This is D Trump, larger than life in your face type of bear.

    The Poster Bear doing cuddly.

My last post Georgina had the predator look, this is what I ment by her looking cuddly.

    Drop...swat...miss

The male I call Longlegs was a split second too slow this time.

  • The Poster Bear

    The Poster Bear

Georgina is the most photogenic of all the bears I see, she can switch her look from cuddly to predator in a split second.

Longlegs in pursuit. #1 Explore 8th Dec, 2018

Black Bears and salmon both move at lightning speed, well maybe not lightning but very fast. Longlegs sees a fish faster than you can imagine, the chase is on. Thank you very much for your comments, favs and views, always appreciated! More bears photos on my new website www.melanieleesonphotography.com/Canadian-Wildlife

    Let's talk.

The female I named Georgina leans into the lens it looks as if she might like to share a few thoughts with me :) Settings: f/4 1/160sec ISO 400 Nikon D850 Nikkor 300mm PF

  • Lost files

    Lost files

I find occaionally I seem to lose files when importing more than one day at a time to Lightroom. If this happens to you go to all photos, grid mode and select Library filter, Date and scroll throught the dates until you find it. Nothing more nerve racking than thinking you have lost entire days at a time.

  • Lightning fast.

    Lightning fast.

From the same day as my last post Georgina had just seen movement in the water, she was on it in a split second.

  • A Portrait of Longlegs

    A Portrait of Longlegs

I have read plus been told by many the male black bears have a longer snout, the female shorter...not true. Longlegs has a short snout as well as his brother Romeo, no doubt they are males. Georgina has a fairly long snout. Another popular myth is black bears have bad eyesight, also not true : ) Taken full frame with the D850 then cropped in.

  • Giddyup... when a rock fits like a saddle.

Giddyup... when a rock fits like a saddle.

Georgina had her favourite places to rest while keeping an eye on her territory, this rock was the preferred spot. She is having a little scratch I thought it looked like she was riding the rock.
